Crocheted Earwarmer Tutorial

For those of you who know how to crochet, I decided to just post the pattern I made for the ear warmers that I make. I hope it is all clear and easy to follow. Let me know if you have any questions.

If you don't know how to crochet, I would suggest looking up some videos on Youtube on how to do specific stitches, i.e. slip stitch etc. If you haven't figured it out already, you can teach yourself how to do a lot of things on Youtube!

Crocheted Bow or Turban Ear Warmer

Crochet

Level:
Beginner

Materials Needed: Size H hook, medium weight yarn in color of choice, 2 buttons.

Abbreviations: ch- chain, hdc- half-double crochet, sl- slip stitch, yo- yarn over, st- stitch

Half-Double Crochet Directions: yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull hook through st, yo, pull hook through all 3 loops.

For Headband:

Row 1: ch 62 (more or less depending on size of head, this will fit an average adult head.)

Row 2: hdc in 3rd ch from hook (the skipped ch will act as 1st hdc), hdc in every ch across, after last hdc ch 2, turn.

Row 3: hdc in first st from hook and each st across, ch 2, turn.

Rows 4-10: Repeat row 3.

When finished, tie off, weave in ends, and sew two buttons into one end like so:

I use yarn and a tapestry needle. Holes in the opposite side can serve as the button holes. No need to create button holes! Behold, the beauty of crochet!

Hint: when tying buttons off, make sure both ends are at the back of your work and tie the two ends together in a double know. This will ensure that the buttons will stay on!

For Bow:
This will be done in-the-round. No turning your work.

Row 1: ch 33, join with sl, ch 2.

Row 2: hdc in next st and each st around, join with sl, ch 2.

Rows 3-8: repeat row 2.

When finished, tie off and weave in ends. You should have a tube like so:

Flatten the tube and lay on the headband at desired spot. (Should be offset.) Pinch bow and headband together.

Cut off a piece of yarn about 2 ft long and tie the two pieces together. take one end and wrap about 5-6 times. Wrap the other end 5-6 times the opposite direction. Tie off and tuck ends in the back. It should look like this:

For Turban:

Make headband portion the same, skip the bow step and pinch the headband in the center (exactly between the two ends) and wrap the yarn around the pinched portion just like you would for the bow. It should look like this:

Have fun! And if you don't know how to crochet but love these headbands, feel free to visit my etsy shop and order one! (Link is on my right-hand side bar.)

You're Welcome

I don't know if I've shared this recipe on the blog before but I feel like it merited another go if so.

This is a recipe from my Great Grandma Lytle, her food was second to none. Whenever people asked for her recipes she said, "Oh its just a little of this and a little of that." She was born in 1900 and lived through the depression so I don't doubt that she just made do with what she had most of the time. So we're lucky to have this recipe.

My dad uses this recipe when he cooks dutch oven, but it can easily be made in the oven and it is quite literally the best cobbler I've ever tasted. Maybe one of my favorite things to eat, ever.

Without further ado, I present to you:

Daisy's Deep Dish Pie
Serves 10

Batter:
¼ cup butter
1 cup sugar
Dash salt
1 ½ cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk

Fruit Mixture:
3 cups fruit, any kind (We use canned peaches and reserve the juice.)
2 cups juice from fruit
¼ cup butter, cut in small pieces

Mix batter—pour into 9x13 pan.  Put fruit on top of batter—dot with butter.  On stove, heat juice to boiling.  Pour hot juice over fruit.  Bake at 350 degrees  for approx 1 hour.  Serve hot with whipped cream or ice cream on top.
*Note: If you use fresh peaches, reduce your juice by at least 1/2 cup. I just make a syrup with sugar and water and bring it to a boil on the stove for the "juice".

3 Years!

Our anniversary is actually coming up this Saturday, July 13th but this weekend is busy and since we got a couple days off work for the 4th, we thought we'd take advantage of that and celebrate! We spent the weekend in Park City relaxing and having fun. Here are a few pictures:
We started off by seeing a matinee of World War Z. It was really good! Both loved it.
Next was our traditional spot for anniversary dinner: Cheesecake Factory.
 Avocado egg rolls.
Always share the chicken and biscuits!
We headed up to Deer Valley to stay at the dreamy Chateaux. It was such a nice and cozy hotel and has great rates during the summer season.
Too much good food! This was #3 on Park City's top restaurants for Breakfast.
Found some Christmas jammies for Scotty. Unfortunately, they didn't have any small enough for him, 6 months was the smallest.
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory: we saw at least 4 different ones this weekend.
Obligatory photos with the moose and bear on Main Street.

On the Flying Eagle zipline at Park City Mountain Resort. Not really all it was hyped up to be but still fun.
Alpine slides! Who says pregnant ladies can't do anything fun?!
 My handsome man.
He made it to the bottom in record time.
We made a quick visit to the Olympic Park to watch some of the ski jumpers and check out their museum. If you look closely you can see one of the jumpers in the air. So cool!

We then headed to the outlets for some shopping and then went back to Provo for one more movie. After Earth. It was ok, but our 3rd choice because our first two were already sold out (thanks dollar theater! haha)

Jer and I talked a lot about the things we have learned in the past year together, we feel closer than ever and understand each other more and more each day. It makes us excited for the future and especially to welcome our sweet new baby into our family. It really is just the beginning! Excited for forever!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

What a crazy time in our lives! Today my teaching job started up again and I went part time with Xactware so I'm hoping I can manage my schedule a little better from now on. A lot has happened since our last post.

Meg and Sam's Wedding:
We were able to attend the beautiful sealing in the SLC temple and then the amazing reception in Kaysville where I was a bridesmaid.
Anna's Graduation and a Trip Home:
 Mom giving Anna a lei
 Sisters!
The fam, missing Shana and Jer! Shana was there behind the camera.
 Beach day with Ella
She had to wear her swim cap.
Reunited with dear friends, missing Tanna!
 Beach walk with Kate.
 Forever my beautiful home.
Making father's day projects for papa and Jer.
 Jer's dad's father's day gift we made.

Scott Bryon at 20 weeks!
He was being a stinker and wouldn't roll over for us so we could see his heart, but from what they could see he's doing great. Measuring at about 5 days under 20 weeks which is normal.
A few days after this picture was taken my belly really popped! I will take another at 22 weeks for anyone interested.

Danielle's Bridal Shower:
Lauren and I were in charge of decorations.
Visit from Family and Strawberry Days Rodeo and Carnival:

My 20-Week gift from my darling hubby:

Bob took us for a ride on his boat.
Beautiful setting for a beautiful wedding.
Finn, their dog was the ring bearer. So cute!
 Pendleton men.
Wedding attendees.

Sorry if that was overload but I've been meaning to blog all of this and I didn't know when I would get around to it. Jer and I have been going a million miles a minute it seems. We work all day during the week and our weekends are always filled with family things, weddings, etc. It is a fun but crazy life. It kind of caught up to us this past weekend and Jer got sick. We are hoping he can kick this bug soon so life can resume as normal but sometimes you just need to take time to let your body heal.

I'm doing and feeling great. I have no more traces of morning sickness and I'm not to the huge uncomfortable stage yet. I can definitely feel myself growing though and I think there will be a lot more growth in the weeks to come, (of course). We are getting more and more excited for Scotty to come and are feeling like we are ready to really start preparing.

Along with baby preparation is house hunting. This has added another level of stress to our lives. We are so excited to get into our own home and have found some promising places that we are ready to put offers in on. We just pray that we will be guided to do what will be right for our family and that with how busy we are, that we can be able to find something before this baby comes out! Keep your fingers crossed for us. :o)
